At the REALTORS® Conference and Expo in November Leslie Rouda Smith will be installed as the 2022 National Association of REALTORS® President. Leslie is Texas born and raised and proud to be the first President to appoint a female majority leadership team in the over 100-year history of the national association. Leslie’s Dad Harley was the President of NAR in 1991 and she has been involved in real estate her entire life, as are her husband, daughter, and son.
Leslie addressed an audience of hundreds of REALTOR® volunteer and staff leaders at Leadership Summit in Chicago on August 23. The President-Elect shared that her theme for 2022 is “Bring it Home.” She believes that “Home is where we learn life’s most important lessons,” and asks that we all follow these principles as we move forward with resiliency:
Value each other’s differences.
Respect each other.
Bring it home.
Leslie feels strongly that we need to “return to civility.” She stated “We need to follow the Golden Rule, treating others as we want to be treated. We need to listen more than we speak and remember why we have two ears and only one mouth." She reminds us that "One of the most sincere forms of respect is listening to what someone else has to say.” She admits she is “under construction every single day,” as we all are. She reminds us that “we don’t have to agree, but we do have to listen to open our minds to other’s view.” The “People’s President” promises “to look for ways to say we can instead of we can’t.”
Leslie encouraged the crowd of local and state association leaders to “lead by example, with respect and civility.” She added “With one voice, there is nothing we can’t accomplish. When one of us succeeds, we all succeed. We are the REALTOR® family.
The 2022 president will focus on “Three S’s:”
1) Sustainability (Be good stewards of the land. “Under All is the Land.”)
2) Safety (Every single REALTOR® needs to come home safely every night.)
3) Strength (Capitalize on our strength in numbers of over 1.5 M members.)
Those attending the national event in San Diego in November attend purchase tickets to attend the inauguration of this historic leadership team. ALL of us can benefit from their service and “Bring it Home in 2022 by valuing each other’s differences, collaborating, and respecting each other.”
Did you notice Leslie’s “Bring it Home” theme ties right in with Brad Lois’ “Find your Strike Zone” theme for the upcoming WRA Convention in Milwaukee October 4-6?
I’m ready to step up to the plate. Are you?
