“I was surprised that we actually got to sit in a private meeting room, with our Assembly Representatives and Senator to discuss our issues!” said one first time attendee.

“I am so disappointed that I’ve never come before!” said another, adding “I can’t believe how powerful an impact this day has had on me!”

These are the comments we hear as we walk from the Capitol to the Monona Terrace Convention Center every year, after visiting face to face with our local legislators on the issues facing organized real estate, and most importantly, consumers.

No matter how many promotions, reminders, communications we send and post, we can’t tell the average member how impactful this annual day is as well as members can tell each other once they’ve experienced it.

On February 7 2024, approximately 30 Lakes Area REALTORS® members traveled to Madison for the annual Wisconsin REALTORS® Government Day. A record number of over 600 members attended, first learning about the issues to be addressed by expert staff, then hearing directly from Governor Tony Evers, then walking to the Capitol and meeting face to face with local legislators. REALTORS® and affiliated business partners addressed the top issues needing attention before the session closes in two weeks, highlighting the balance between the need for professionalism in our industry and protection for consumers. The day ended with a social gathering of hundreds of REALTORS® connecting over refreshments, overlooking Lake Monona before traveling back to their home districts. In our case, 17 rode in comfort on a charter bus, safely back home to their cars parked in Elkhorn. This experience is at no cost to those who choose to attend.

2024 Government Affairs Chair Brian Labahn presented WRA Vice-President of Legal and Public Affairs Cori Lamont with the association’s annual Political Advocacy Committee contribution, showing our commitment to the issues important to our profession and consumers. Everyone that attended learned something new, made some new contacts, and connected with friends.

We hope even more of our members will make this a priority and attend next year. Thank you to all who joined us this year, and those that understand the importance of advocacy and investing in RPAC. Each of you can make a difference.
